Hayes Slade AIA, IIDA is a co-founder and Principal of Slade Architecture and 2019 President of the NY AIA Chapter. At Slade Architecture, she has designed projects of varied scales and programs nationally and internationally. Her work has been recognized with awards including a NYC Public Design Commission Design Excellence Award, AIA Design Awards and Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Awards as well as exhibited at the Center for Architecture and the Venice Biennale and featured in several hundred publications. Slade Architecture has been part of the Design Excellence Program at the NYC Department of Design and Construction for over ten years and was selected by Architecture League of NY for their Emerging Voices program.
Believing that architects have an important role in community and service, Hayes co-authored Design Guidelines for affordable housing for NYC HPD. As AIANY President, she continues this focus by setting the 2019 Presidential theme for programming to “Building Community”. This theme asks members and professionals to examine how they can contribute to their communities—both outside and within the architecture profession.
Hayes has taught graduate and undergraduate design studios and served on design juries in the US and abroad. She is a licensed architect in NY and holds undergraduate and masters degrees in structural engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
