Fellow Richard Anderson reflects upon his accomplishments since taking over the NYBC in 1994 as he prepares to retire.
“1994 was still a tough year for the industry… We had not yet emerged from the recession of the late 80s and there was high unemployment in the building trades – we hadn’t built a new office tower in New York for the previous five years. Crime was high, there was uncertainty about the city’s future and the construction market only generated $10 billion in activity.”
“That’s now $43 billion and 147,000 construction workers are employed on city job sites. In 22 years, we’ve come a long way. I say let’s keep the good times rolling.”
