Polly Trottenberg promoted the launch of ParkNYC in Queens, an app allowing drivers to pay for parking meters using their smart phones.
“Drivers in Brooklyn and Staten Island will be able to pay for parking meters from their smart phones starting Thursday, the Department of Transportation said.
The app, known as ParkNYC, is already live in all of Manhattan and the Bronx. It’s expected to launch in Queens sometime this summer, DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg said.
Motorists get a notification from the app five minutes before their time at the meter is up. Users can add cash without returning to their cars.
DOT expects to save $1.9 million a year in personnel costs and credit card fees by switching to online payments, Trottenberg said.” – Erin Durkin, New York Daily News
