Event Public Works
January 28th, 2025
3:00pm - 5:00pm
L10 Arts and Cultural Center
10 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, USA

Andrea Steele has more than two decades of experience overseeing a wide range of complex urban design projects throughout the U.S, with a focus on institutional, cultural, and community-oriented architecture. Before establishing Andrea Steele Architecture, Steele served as partner and principal at TEN Arquitectos’ New York office. Steele’s current projects include an innovative hub for NASA (part of the GSA Design Excellence Program) located on the Glenn Research campus in Cleveland, Ohio. In Queens, the firm has designed a community center for the immigrant-advocacy organization Make the Road New York.

Dichen joined Andrea Steele Architecture (ASA) in 2014. As project manager and designer for the L10 project, she led the multidisciplinary design team and worked with the culturals, client and construction teams throughout the project's duration. Her current focus includes a new community center in Queens and the Maysles Film Documentary Center in Harlem, NY.

Join us for a tour of the L10 Arts and Cultural Center with Andrea Steele Architecture.

At a critical intersection in Downtown Brooklyn, within the base of a residential tower, L10 Arts and Cultural Center will serve Brooklynites as a hub for cultural learning, practice, and innovation. It will house several of Brooklyn’s premier cultural institutions across its new 50,000 square foot space, including the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Brooklyn Public Library, the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA), and 651 Arts.

Fellows will tour a soon-to-be opened L10 Arts and Cultural with Andrea Steele and Dichen Ding.

How can L10 serve as a model to co-locate new housing and cultural spaces?

About Public Works

Public Works is a discussion series to drive civic dialogue around new and forthcoming built environment projects in New York City. Throughout the year, we invite government officials and private sector leaders to present design and development initiatives that shape the public good.  Our goal is to create an open and collegial venue for deeper conversation between the public sector and our network of civic leaders building, caring for, and maintaining our city.

Support Our Work

Public Works is made possible through the support of our Board of Directors, Director’s Circle, Company Members, and our Campaign for Courageous Leadership, and company and individual members. Our programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
