Project Team: Young New Yorkers (Rachel Barnard)
Blind Love is a participatory art project inviting New Yorkers to write love letters to those people who remain in our nation’s blind spots during the current era of mass incarceration.
BLIND LOVE is a participatory art project inviting New Yorkers to write love letters to those people who remain in our nation’s blind spots during the current era of mass incarceration. The sculpture is assembled to the dimensions of a solitary confinement cell (6’x9’x8’), as an open, pink, powder-coated steel frame. On the first day of the installation, formerly-incarcerated performers thread red ribbon through the frame to softly close the cell. Members of the public are then invited to write love letters to those living in our collective blind spots on pink tags, and attach them to the ribbons.
