Mitigating LaGuardia Airport Traffic

Sam Schwartz details the installment of a ramp connecting LaGuardia Airport to Grand Central Parkway to relieve congestion.

“Mr. Schwartz said the ramp was not part of the original plan for the project, which involves building a new central terminal where a parking garage stood and tearing down the 53-year-old Central Terminal Building. Rather, it is one of the “dramatic changes” the project’s managers have made to alleviate the snarls the construction has caused, he said.

On Feb. 10, after the last snowstorm to hit the city, severe afternoon traffic and reports of travelers dragging luggage along highway overpasses to avoid missing their flights prompted the Port Authority to reconsider aspects of its plan.”
