The Urban Design Forum is an independent membership organization that gathers designers, planners, developers and civic leaders to debate the defining issues facing our cities. Based in New York City, we host groundbreaking conferences, roundtable discussions, and tours of ongoing building projects.

This fall the Forum is searching for a Program Intern and Research Intern to assist us with developing new projects and managing our current initiatives.

 
Program Internship (Fall 2018 – Spring 2019)

The part-time Program Internship position is an opportunity for an individual to assist with researching and executing a new project, to shadow senior staff, and to build their professional skills.

The Program Intern will split their time between project management and research, and shadowing staff. Under the guidance of the Deputy Director, the Intern will conduct project research, assist with planning and launching a new project, and support with ongoing projects. The Intern will also shadow Forum staff to learn about non-profit management and develop their professional skills.

The ideal candidate is a current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate of Public Policy, Real Estate Development, Urban Studies, Urban Planning, Architecture, or a related field. We welcome candidates who are hardworking, dedicated, willing to learn and critical about issues of the built environment.

This is a part-time unpaid position for a minimum 2 days per week starting late-September 2018 and ending late-spring 2019. Scheduling is flexible. We will be happy to assist you with obtaining school credits. This is a wonderful experience for those interested in non-profit work and urban design.

Responsibilities ↓
  • Project Research – Conduct research for a new project, develop stakeholder maps, identify case studies and produce a literature review.
  • Project Management – Assist with launching a new project, developing a work plan, and managing external stakeholders.
  • Non-profit management – Assist with daily operations and learn about necessary operations to run a non-profit.
  • Programming – Assist with structuring and organizing events related to ongoing programs.
  • Publications – Conduct research and assist with editing contributions related to Next New York and Forefront project publications.

Research Internship – Fall 2018

Under the guidance of the Program Associate, the Research Intern will conduct research for a new project, produce stakeholder maps and assist with ongoing projects and publications.

The ideal candidate is a current student or recent graduate of Public Policy, Real Estate Development, Urban Studies, Urban Planning, Architecture, or a related field. We welcome candidates who are reliable, resourceful, and critical about issues of the built environment.

This is a part-time unpaid internship for 2 days per week starting late-September 2018 and ending late-2018. Scheduling is flexible. We will be happy to assist you with obtaining school credits. This is a wonderful experience for those interested in urban design.
