Core Fellowships

We invite a select group of emerging and distinguished leaders to participate each year. We are committed to promoting the achievements of traditionally underrepresented groups in planning and design; women, people of color, and professionals with experience in diverse community settings are encouraged to apply.

Core Fellowship Application Requirements:

  • Statement of Interest: In no more than 500 words, please discuss your interest in participating in the Forum’s activities, as well as recent work, research, publications and accolades that demonstrate your commitment to building dynamic, equitable, and resilient cities.
  • Nominating Letter: In no more than 500 words, nominating letters should address candidates’ contributions to the fields of urban design, planning, policy and development; promise of future achievement; and potential contributions to the work of the Forum. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek a letter of nomination by a current Fellow of the Urban Design Forum. Candidates without a Fellow nomination are welcome to submit a professional or academic recommendation.

International Fellowship

Fellows of the Forum hail from over fifty cities across the United States and around the world. While urbanists located outside of New York may not be able to participate actively in our programs, we offer this option to participate from afar and remain connected to our global network of urbanists.

Forefront Fellowship

Forefront is an annual initiative dedicated to cultivating emerging leaders in urban design, development and policy. Each year, 20 individuals under the age of 40 are selected as Forefront Fellows and participate in dedicated conversations and site visits around an annual theme. Fellows meet monthly, share projects, and receive feedback from their peers and other established leaders in the field. We are committed to promoting the achievements of traditionally underrepresented groups in planning and design; women, people of color, and professionals with experience in diverse community settings are encouraged to apply. The application process for the class of 2017 is now closed - please check back in late January 2018 for information on our next Forefront Fellowship.
